Wichita Area Technical College (WATC) focuses on providing education in workforce training, leadership in the delivery of career technical education, and helping to drive regional economic development.

Through its programs in advanced manufacturing and aviation technologies, WATC helps to sustain Wichita’s legacy of excellence and innovation in aircraft design and manufacturing. Known as “The Air Capital of the World”, Wichita at its peak turned out a quarter of all U.S. aircraft. Today Wichita hosts numerous aviation manufacturers and suppliers, including Spirit AeroSystems, Textron and others.

Training at WATC is provided in aviation, manufacturing, design, business, and health care. Students can earn a certificate of completion, a technical certificate, and/or an associate of applied science degree. Also, WATC delivers the general education courses required for technical certificate and degree programs.

The National Center for Aviation Training (NCAT) is one of three WATC locations. NCAT is owned by Sedgwick County and has approximately 250,000 square feet. WATC is responsible for the operations, maintenance, and upkeep of the facility. The county also subleases a portion of the facility to Wichita State University which it uses for the National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR).

A member of the Talent Solutions Coalition (TSC), WATC coordinates its role in the Coalition through WATC’s Strategic Innovations Division. The Division offers a range of  technical and work ethic curriculum solutions to TSC’s supply chain members, clients and sponsors.  Sheree Utash, President of WATC, also serves as the Executive Sponsor of the Talent Solutions Coalition.

Information about WATC curriculum offerings may be obtained in the membership section of the TSC website. Information about NCAT and NIAR is available at http://ncatkansas.org/ and http://www.niar.wichita.edu/.
