Executive Director, Strategic Innovations Division, Wichita Area Technical College
Monica Stewart serves at Wichita Area Technical College in the role of Executive Director of the Strategic Innovations Division. She is responsible for overseeing Workforce Development, Employer Relations and Workforce Training Solutions at Wichita Area Technical College. Monica has served at the college for five years, previously in the role of Instructional Designer specializing in the design of technical programs and most recently in the role of Director of Assessment and New Program Development.
Monica is a 2006 graduate of Kansas State University with a degree in English Literature and a 2008 graduate of Newman University with a degree in Secondary Education. She obtained a Master’s Degree from Pittsburg State University in 2012 in Educational Technology and is a certified Library Media Specialist. Monica earned her Doctorate degree in Interdisciplinary Leadership from Creighton University in 2017.
Monica has developed a keen interest and expertise in work focused on developing and implementing programs aiming to foster work ethic through the development of soft skills that aid students as they transition from education to workforce. She uses her position at WATC to gain insight from business and industry to assists students in better meeting employer’s expectations in the workplace.
Monica currently serves on the Leadership Team at Wichita Area Technical College. She previously served as the HLC Education and Public Relations Chair during WATC’s 2014 accreditation visit and on the President’s Advisory Council.
Monica has a passion for teaching and learning with a particular interest in promoting training opportunities that meet workforce needs. Her supplementary interests at the college include contributing to events that promote women in STEM careers and educating young people in the Wichita community on the many opportunities available through careers in aviation and manufacturing.
